To spay.

Kaui just turned a little over 6 months! She is a big girl now! I am for sure going to get her spayed, but everything seems so hetic. With Oliver (or whatever his names going to be, undecided still) comming, and ahhhh i dont know. Im worried that it's going to be hard for kaui since oliver (or whatever his name is) would want to play, and then kaui is pretty energetic, and Im afraid it would mess up the stiches! Does anyone have any advice to? Let them play seperately? Also, its about time to get her spayed if she is 6 months right? And last, how long would it take for her to heal? 2 weeks? It should be ok since oliver would still be a puppy.?..

Hey Kaui!

Nice shades! :)

I would suggest keeping you guys separated until Kaui heals. It's good to have a e-collar for Kaui since they tend to lick that area and it can cause an infection and slow down the healing. Oliver (or whatever his name is) will probably want to lick it so none of that stuff. IF they really want to play with each, you could put surpervise the play time and separate them once it gets too crazy. It heals prety quickly though. The stitches should dissove and the scaring should heal in 2-3 weeks. After that, there is still some scarring but that will go away after a while too. At 6 months, it's the perfect time to do this before they go into heat and ...well you know, period and get attack by every male dog in smell range. We would not want that to happen to sweet Kaui.

Oh, good to spay you before you get your first heat. If you've started your 1st heat already, spay when you turn 2years or else there'll be complications & you'll have hormone imbalance. That's why I'm only gonna spay when I'm two years older after I have my first litter of Golden puppies(my hooman's idea but I'm excited about too)I don't think you both should be separated coz you both have already met each other & you both have bonded with each other. If you separate, one of you is bound to be depressed. Your brother Oliver(?) is still very young. Anyway, you'll be kind of tired after you're spayed & you'll see yourself sitting in one corner. It'll take at least a week to heal just as long you don't lick that part or open the would again. sad to say this but you gotta wear the satellite dish! Hehehehe...

When is Oliver (or whatever his name is) coming? Ruby healed in about 10 days. If in doubt, separate them so she doesn't get hurt. Also Ruby never needed one of those collar things surprisingly enough! Better to get the spaying out of the way sooner rather than later.

Good Luck, Michele, Ruby's Mom

Every doggy heals differently, but it took me about 7 days until the incision had healed and the skin looked like it was back together. My stitches were actually inside, so you couldn't see anything on the outside, and they dissolved on their own. I just have a scar, now. (and I never had to wear an e-collar, either. I didn't even know I had a boo-boo there!)

Well, I'm sure Oliver (or whatever his name is!) will want to play, but he won't be too rough. Kaui will be the one who will want to get all crazy and play! And if she's anything like me, she'll be ready to play the day after the surgery. If you CAN get her spayed before you bring the little one home, I think that would be a good idea. And yes, she can get spayed at 6 months. I was spayed at 7 and I was fine :)

Whoa, you look totally cool in your specs and hoodie! Mommy is interested in hearing the answers to these questions too since she's pretty apprehensive about getting me spayed.

So exciting about your brother, though! I know you're going to just love him.
